Press release Tango Music Competition ‘Concurso del Ocho ‘ Tango music Competition Doble Ocho organised in 2008 the first Concurso del Ocho, the Ocho. This new tangomusic competition is an initiative of Kunstburo and Tango Centre El Corte and is organised by kunstburo Lucien Lecarme. It started during the fifth International tangofestival Doble Ocho in march 2008.
The competition is for amateur musicians, music students and semi-professional Argentinian tangomusic groups and musicians worldwide. Concurso del Ocho want's to stimulate the creation of new innovative arrangements of existing compositions, and the development of "new projects ".
Main Objectives The concurso want's to stimulate and discover new musical talent and offer a podium for this talent and possibillities for a breakthrough in the professional circuit. Also the Concurso want's to be a meeting place for musicians worldwide, podium programmers, festival directors and musiclabels and ofcourse tangodance and music lovers. With the professional jury the Concurso stands for quality and realises a selection in tangogroups and musicians.

-Mr. Andres Linetzky: Composer / director of Vale Tango.
-Mrs. Marie Cecile Moerdijk: Ethnomusicologist, Singer, Actress, Author // jury member for various competitions like the Elisabeth Concours.
- Mr. Lukas Groen: Composer and Conductor
- Ms. Maria Jose Ortiz: Singer, producer, guest teacher Rotterdam Conservatorium

What do musicians have to do to join this music competition ?

Participants make a new arrangement of an excisting composition.In the first edition, the composition was Carel Kraayenhof's El Corte.
This composition was made by Carel Kraayenhof for the 16th birthday of El Corte, the start of the Doble Ocho tangofestival.
For 2009, the new assignment is the Milonga 'La vida es una Milonga (Music : Fernando Montoni , lyrics : Rodolfo Sciammarella). The music score is available for participants.
How to participate?
These are the steps of becoming a participant:
1. Subscribe to this music competition by sending an email to tango(add)dds.nl , before March 15 2009.
2. Pay 75 euro subscription fee NOTE; STUDENTS DON'T PAY THE ENTRY FEE!
For this money, they receive 5 tickets for the fridaynight april 10 salon of the festival.
3. The music score of "La Vida es una Milonga" will be send to the participants.
4. Participants make a recording on CD or digital of their arrangement played live and they have to send this to the organisation before March 15th 2009.
The finalists will be invited (before april 1) to participate in the final on friday april 10 20096.
